One of the first stars the Sharks ever had. Igor Larionov was already heralded as one of the top hockey players in the world when he finally made his NHL debut in October of 1989 at the age of 29. In Russia, Larionov had been teamed with wingers Sergei Makarov and Vladimir Krutov, on the KLM line. The newest member of the Hockey Hall of Fame wore these black and teal Louisville TPS gloves as a member of the San Jose Sharks during the Nineties. Heavy wear with worn-through palms and loads of stick marks and slashes on the outside. Each glove is signed in silver paint pen by Larionov and the lot comes with the original auction program from the January 12th, 1994 Hockey in Harlem charity benefit listing the gloves as one of the lots.

Owen Nolan, one of the greatest San Jose Sharks of all time, retired from the NHL today. He still makes his home out here in the Bay Area. This is a video clip of his now LEGENDARY called shot against Dom Hasek (one of the best to ever play) at the San Jose hosted 1997 NHL All Star Game.

If we spent the past 30-40 years interconnected between our neighborhoods, we’d have experienced a far more New York-ish unity. I’d also argue that if we had a fully integrated public transportation system, the Bay would have become far more populated due to access and convenience. Culture and society is both influenced and dictated by things like civil engineering, architecture, and transportation infrastructure. Honestly, I could write a sociological analysis on this shit, but I won’t…or maybe I will…one day. What I don’t know about is public policy—how can we, the people, lobby to get something like this going again? I’d like to see a fully integrated metro system in the Bay before I die.
